The Hiperboloide, Chewing Instrument, is the result of more than 35 years of study, work and dedication in the professional life of Master Dr. Afrânio Pereira Cheida. In 1955, Dr Afrânio graduated in Dentistry from PUCC and at the beginning of his career, he completed an internship at USP in Prosthesis with the team of Professor Carlos Aldrovandi, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Prof. J. J. Barros, and many other training courses with the most renowned teachers. He has accumulated experience to practice the different segments of Dentistry on a global basis.

In 1976, he met Dr Mário Baldani, Dr Denisar Lopes Figueiredo and Dr Silvio Betarello, and was enchanted by the principles of Biocybernetics and, in the study group, the study-debate of the concept of hyperbolic occlusion emerged. Mário and Afrânio thought about making a chewing aid device with the appropriate shape, consistency and material. They began research and tried to build an exerciser with a hyperbolic shape. They did this for some time, but after several failed attempts, Dr. Mário Baldani gave up, he got tired because the silicone was not suitable and required intense research, as well as the shape, hardness and complicated matrix.

Awakened  by the principles of OFM, Dr. Afrânio Cheida continued his studies. Several courses were taken with: Dr Maurício Vaz de Lima, Dr Stefanelli, Dr Moryón, Dr Vilma Simões and others, and increasingly there was a need to continue and complete the project of creating the dream chewing exerciser, which would compensate for the modern “soft” food, and would return the attributes of chewing with the appropriate hardness for humans, which would be a very important aid in the morphofunctional conformation of the jaws.
